A REPLICA banner from the 1980s miners' strikes has been given to the Scottish Mining Museum by the National Union of Mineworkers.
It is an exact replica of the NUM Scottish Area banner, which was carried in Gala Day celebrations and during the notorious strikes.
Fergus Waters, director of the Scottish Mining Museum, said: "Banners were an important symbol of pride and unity for thousands of miners."
It was unveiled at the museum by Midlothian MP David Hamilton, a former miner, and Nicky Wilson, NUM Scotland president.
The original banner was commissioned in 1970, to mark the amalgamation of the nation's branches into one area.
Mr Wilson said: "I am certain that there are many other banners out in the communities, and I would urge anyone who holds a Scottish mining banner to donate it to the museum, where they can be properly cared for, and perhaps, displayed."
