Destiny stone to stay put

THE Stone of Destiny will not be moved back to Scone Palace in Perthshire despite the change to an SNP administration, it was confirmed yesterday.
Tory MSP Murdo Fraser has been campaigning for it to be returned from Edinburgh Castle and hoped for support from the Executive.

But he was told by culture minister Linda Fabiani that it was solely a matter for the Queen - advised by the Commissioners for the Safekeeping of the Regalia.

I love the subtle irony of a unionist being repulsed by a nationalist who considers Elizabeth...Queen of Scots..to be the arbiter on this iconic stone. The Head of State being a constitutional monarch is much safer particularly in the early stages of Scottish Independence. Thereafter the peoples voice will be heard and personally I now think much is gained by having a non political Head of State.

hmmm.Would this wee stane with a rather dubious pedigree be exibited free even if it were "lifted" to Scone?

personaly speaking, i think some folk in Embra castle should be investigated with a view to implimenting prosecutions under the Trade Descriptions Act.Besides how could it possible return home when there is a perceived suspicion that this particular stane has,in no part of it's past ever been remotely connected with royal @rses of a scottish whatever..Aye well,no doubt the gullable tourists and others will believe some of protestations that it is the real Mackay but maybe gullible folk believe in fairy stories and happy ever after endings, but me i tend to be a bit cynical that some royal @rses once apon a time on that particular lump of rock.

It wouldn't be due to the fact the Earl of Mansfield family seat is Scone Palace ?
It would be a great tourist attraction if the Stone of Destiny was moved there, bring in the bucks.
Why didn't the Earl campaign to have the Stone moved from London when he was in Thatchers Government ?

Is this spineless Executive going to start dealing with the REAL political, social and economic issues facing Scotland or are they just going to spend every waking moment dealing with constitutional/nationalist frippery? This, combined with the nonsense of wasting parliamentary time and money on an independence referendum which Salmond knows will fail, demonstrates that the SNP are unfit to be in office. They are bereft of talent and ideas, and are pandering to a tabloid nationalist agenda. Shame on them.

Colkitto, I appreciate your sarcasm. The Stone would be a great tourist attraction - just like HM Queen. I am sure that she would be delighted to learn that the attraction of tourists is the sole reason for the retention of the monarchy. There is no place for a monarch in modern Scotland.

Liam, let's have a referendum ASAP and, after the inevitable no vote, we can consign this issue to the shelves for another 50 years. A waste of money undoubtedly but, hey, who in the nationalist camp gives a hoot?

Why don't you set out what some of the key changes should be in economic policy for example.
