JIMMY Calderwood hinted Zander Diamond may return to his Aberdeen starting line-up for today's Clydesdale Bank Premier League trip to Motherwell.
The defender started on the bench in last weekend's opening 2-0 defeat to Inverness after struggling with a foot injury but Diamond may start this afternoon after completing 90 minutes for the reserve side on Tuesday.
Calderwood said: "Zander wa
s lacking a bit of match practice as he hasn't played too many games, hence the reason to start him on the bench against Inverness. But you always miss a player of Zander's quality.
"There was a wee bit of a fright on Tuesday when he went down injured but he was okay and it's great to see him back in contention."
Fir Park was not a happy hunting ground for the Dons last season, with Calderwood's side failing to pick up any points there but the Aberdeen boss hopes to buck that trend today.
"We want to try and get away from the nil points mark as soon as possible," he said, "and there is no better place to start than against the team that finished third last season."
Motherwell themselves started with a 3-2 defeat at Hearts and manager Mark McGhee has challenged his players to quickly get into top gear.
"Our strategy is still the same, we want to start games fast and get a lead," McGhee said. "Nothing has changed, we just need to convert our good play into goals."
