Afghan army set to double in size

AFGHANISTAN'S fledgling army, seen as the key to the country's long-term security, is to substantially increase its size, the UN said yesterday.
There are currently around 70,000 soldiers in the Afghan army. "The Joint Co-ordination and Monitoring Board, meeting today in Kabul, agreed the expansion of the army – increasing its strength to 134,000 personnel," the UN said in a statement.

The Afghanis and the Allies are fortunate to have a stud like Karzai. He's the real deal. Those who have come on this forum to decry our efforts in Afghanistan by pointing out the sorry history of foreign invaders in Afghanistan should read their own words. The Afghani Taleban are a thing of the past. Those who call themselves Taleban now are, by and large, not Afghanis. They are foreign invaders. No foreigners have ever conquered Afghanistan. What makes anyone think that a group of foreign jihadis are going to have any better luck?
