AIRDRIE broke their goal famine in style in a one-sided clash between the Co-op Insurance Cup shock troops.
They had failed to score in four previous matches since gaining promotion but, like buses, several came along at once.

The Diamonds looked the livelier from the start and ended their long drought with a well-worked goal.

Kevin McDonald sparke
d the move with a threaded pass to Steven McDougall whose cross wrong-footed the Ton defence. Simon Lynch was first to react with a pass to former Morton midfielder Scott McLaughlin, who drilled a powerful shot low into the net from inside the box.

Morton suffered a further setback when Cuthbert was forced off through injury and Colin Stewart took over between the sticks. But the new keeper was unable to prevent McLaughlin from adding to his old team's woes in 27 minutes.

This time Paul Di Giacomo did the spadework on the left flank before his cross was met by McLaughlin's precise side-footed finish from 14 yards.

The contest was as good as over before the break when McDougall's cross was brilliantly controlled by Di Giacomo who then fired a shot into the roof of the net.

It got no better for the visitors on the restart, with David Nixon glancing a header low into the net, before Lynch added the fifth with a fine solo effort.

Morton's misery was complete when Allan McManus was red-carded for scything Stephen McKenna.
