If the EU's economic failure continues & there is no sign it won't, then it will not be a competitor with the US but as a possible auxiliary. I think we would almost cwertainly be a US not Chinese auxiliary, if only because when Nazi germany wants to commit genocide these days they need to get the US to bring the firepower.

Already Chinese electricity production is greater than that of the entire EU so they clearly expect to far surpass us.
