ON MONDAY night, as the financial situation went from crisis to catastrophe, I was at Number 11 Downing Street sharing a glass of white wine with the a seemingly very relaxed Chancellor of the Exchequer and his wife, Maggie.
Number 11 has the ambience of a rundown, second-rate seaside hotel, including the dim lighting. I don't say this as a criticism – in these troubled times it is good to know the Treasury is not wasting our money on designer furniture. On the stairs up...

You have to ask "Why did this idiot allow the fire to start in the first place" rather than flaff about trying to put it out.
It was recognised for many years that pa Broon was steering a financial course that was unsustainable.

As far as I am aware he is not a dyed in the wool economist. Gordon is a theoretical economist and a Son of the Manse. He has had 10yr at the job, but he is no match for Tony Blair, who was no match for the Blessed Margaret. All worshipping Christians Alastair (McBay) by the way.

A 'lawyer' running the regulator of the biggest financial centre on the planet! When is he going to sack all his 'advisers' from McKinsey and get people who have actually run a business rather than taken big money off people for telling them how to run their own very successful firm?

Please Mr Darling, they are dangerous..
