THE Tollcross Park Leisure Centre is but a distant memory. In the ten weeks since John Mason claimed a famous victory for the SNP, the mood around Gordon Brown's government has changed, certainly among those who earn their living at Westminster.
The next four weeks will tell us whether it has changed for the public, too – or whether Mr Brown is staring at an electoral wipeout every bit as devastating as was predicted during those heady summer days.

The leisure centre was so far in the pas...

I often wonder what planet the Scotsman's reporters are on. Most folk on the street know fine well it was Gordon Brown and his Labour government that did all it could to woo big business and the money markets. They were the ones that lorded over the financial system and allowed greed to take precedent over sound judgment. Now that the sky is falling down they're the ones rushing around making out it was nothing to do with them and that we should flock towards them for comfort and protection. It makes me sick to see this newspaper spout off Labour party drivel time and time again.

How does our friend get to know about all this in at that time of the morning.
As for drivel, I suggest the SNP are the best purveyors around at the moment, when they are trying to put the clock back 301yr.

The Labour candidate is very poor and watch STV's Politics Now on 25th September to see how dreadful he is and I am advised that the screening was the third attempt as Labour complained that their candidate "had made a mistake" on first two film takes. This is no time for a novice.

A Local Councillor in Glenrothes for 16 years and leader of Fife Council, the SNPs Peter Grant is a great local champion and has campaigned for years on local issues such as tolls on the Forth and Tay bridges, now abolished by the SNP. Fife Council, led by Peter Grant, has frozen the council tax, after it had risen by 61% under Labour.

New Labour have recruited large sections of the media to print or broadcast their propaganda as fact. That is what spin doctoring means and it requires willing collaborators in the media. Some of the media have done even worse, and propagated deliberate lies or character assassination at the behest of New Labour. More and more of the media, and its members, are becoming indistinguishable from New Labour. They routinely trade jobs and careers - New Labour politicians become expensively paid columnists, journalists join the government machine and give orders to civil servants. New Labour gets angry with journalists only when they break ranks and refuse to play the game. In spite of their shrill complaints. The Blair and Brown governments have had a remarkably easy ride from the media. Nearly all of their biggest decisions were endorsed and promoted by the media and their propaganda was rarely, if ever, dissected or challenged.

What planet does Ross Lydall come from?

The easy photocall in the town centre is not possible as the shopping centre and land is owned by the Co-op which does not allow political campaigning on it's property. This is a well known fact yet Lindsay Roy and his campaign pitched up at the Postgate yesterday and were moved on by the town centre's security staff.
Basic simple screw up and they really really should have known better.
As for Iain Gray's praise of his candidate - " Linsay Roy is a schoolteacher not a politician!" Why are the proposing the man then for the constituancy?
More great thinking from Labour's new leader in North Britain.
All we hear from labour is Brown will give us stability in this time of economic crisis. Well after Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee's actions yesterday the stock market is still falling this morning. Roll on 6th Novemeber when we can start to get rid of these usless lumps!!

I remember a very astute person commenting that when the SNP won Glasgow East with a 22 % swing from Labour that the Scotsman would probably have a banner headline screaming:

Disaster for SNP as almost 11,000 voters stick to Labour!

That about sums up the reporting in this comic. You'd get better political reporting in the Beano!

"There is a clearer understanding that this is a global, not a government problem"

Not from me there isn't.

Tell me Mr Lydall, which greedy git taxed all the pensions away, taxed us all to death, regulated business to death, spent incompetently for years and then raised income tax for the poorest paid?

It is a joke to blame the current crisis on anyone else than Gordon Brown.

SNP hypocrisy,

I see the SNP's 'professional' bloggers are out in force today from the comfort of their bedrooms at their mammy's house.

What a load of undemocratic garbage flows out of these bitter angry people.

Hate to break it to you wee greetin' faced Nats, but Scottish Labour may in fact hold Glenrothes.

The air is fast gushing out of that balloon of a leader as his ego deflates a little this week as more Scots are seeing the SNP for what they are and the ridculous claims they have been making.

If the SNP were a set of bagpipes, Salmond is the inflated gas filled bag, and these SNP bloggers are the drones.

The SNP like to shout about nation's like Iceland - and how Scotland could be just the same - well there you have it - Iceland is now bankrupt! The SNP are likewise bankrupt of new ideas. Watch labour hold Glenrothes.

Watch the SNP's fat controller appear and speak for the SNP's ineffective candidate AGAIN just as he did in Glasgow East. Just how long can he pull his wee trick where he makes himself look like the 'official' candidate? Or wil lthe voters tell him to shove off and present his candidate!

8. You are clearly an idiot. The US has sneezed abd the world is in recession. Iceland for example is bankrupt - which part of any of this was caused by Gordon Brown? Deluded SNP supporters like you are the jokes here.

If Scotland was independent then right now we'd be in the same boat as Iceland - bankrupt, alone with absolutely no one to turn to.

If Scotland was independent would we have to spend millions on an illegal war?

This report could have been written by the Labour party themselves so it is hardly fair comment. The comments about Curran are a joke considering she lied about where she lived and treated the electorate like they were second class citizens. Other MSP's who have stood in by-elections have had the integrity to resign their seats first!

Mr Lidel, Let's wait for the results shall we before trying to falsely call it for the SNP just to let Labour off the hook.

The SNP hold the equivalent seat at Holyrood so I would be surprised if they didn't win however given the continuous bias of the media it is a wonder the SNP ever win anything!

As for 'SNP hypocrisy' since all you can come up with are snide jibes against Salmond's weight I doubt anyone will ever listen to any political argument you make, if you ever manage to think of one.

The SNP has never pointed to Iceland as an example to follow btw but they often mention Norway and their massive oil fund. You must try harder.

I found this comment amusing btw "I recall a conversation with one of Scottish Labour's brightest lights"

Yes Ross, he's so bright he realises Labour have entirely lost touch with their traditional supporters, but he's still in the party! That's not bright, it's extremely unscrupulous, then again perhaps he's a kindred spirit...!

Did I mention the SNP in my post?

Answer my question? Who has greedily raise taxes year upon year since 1997? Who has run up huge budget deficits since 2001?

Who has threatened profitable business with windfall taxes?

Who has bailed out failed businesses like Northern Rock?

Who has continually burdened the economy with red tape since 1997?

Who promised more state 'freebies' at the Labour party conference the other week?

Kindly answer these questions on economics and do not resort to ad hominem.
