THOMAS MANN, 27, of Bathgate, is the manager of the Spirit Health Club at Holiday Inn, Edinburgh.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? Going to the Tattoo. I remember an Australian tourist giving me a kangaroo pin.
What are your memories of school? Enjoying PE. I'd have a go at all kinds of sports a
t my school, Craigmount High, and was always taking part in various interscholastic events. It's kind of fitting I ended up managing a gym.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I do love Edinburgh Castle. It gives great panoramic views of what is a very beautiful city.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? In comparison to other major cities, it is tidier. I like the old buildings and of course there's a lot to see with the festivals, Hogmanay and shopping.
What would you change about the city? We have a really good bus service in Edinburgh, so I'm not sure why we need trams. We should be focusing on tackling congestion with public transport-only areas.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. Spending the day with my girlfriend, Lynsey, starting with shopping on Princes Street, sightseeing and then lunch in the Gardens. For dinner we'd go for a Mexican.
Which sports interest you? I am a keen bowler and represent Scotland indoors and outdoors. I recently returned from Wales, where we won the outdoor Home International Series, defeating Wales, Ireland and England. I play for Newbridge Bowling Club and West Lothian at county level. The highlight of my bowling career came last year, when I won the Scottish & British Indoor Pairs title with my club-mate and friend, Neil Speirs.
What was your most embarrassing moment? At my primary school, Hillwood, we had mixed football teams and we usually ended up sharing changing rooms. Once I was going to the shower and I tripped over a box, losing my towel in the process.
What is your greatest achievement? I'm very proud of representing my country at bowls but I have also played badminton for Scotland. I played a series against Wales when I was 12.
Sum up Edinburgh in three words Historic, picturesque, multicultural.
