NEW charges for putting skips outside private houses or erecting scaffolding have been introduced in East Lothian.
The new charges cover individuals and organisations who are carrying out work on public roads and pavements.

These range from a charge of £25 for placing a skip on a road, to £100 for erecting scaffolding on a pavement.

And who thought that up? And for what purpose? And it's gonna benefit who? Another brilliant idea from ELC. Probably goint to start charging for parking at the beach or something equally stupid!!!

ELC prove yet again that they are the 'uncaring' council. They don't give a sh** about people, it's all about balancing books.

Hamburger Supper - glad its Tescos you work for and not ELC. Good of you to be waiting to serve me when I drive one of the 'million' vans into your establishement (on council time) to get my 'messages' before a take 'the wife te the dentist'. Ah but what about your nights out? Do you not know the council pays for all the staff to have a full day jolly at Christmas with 'flexi' to get the presents in? What's lazy about that?

Come, come fellow citizens, lets think this one through! The charges imposed by the council are merely to cover costs arising from any damage to roads that can occur when filling skips or in the case of the scaffold, from footpath damage from any debris and such that have fallen. If the builders hiring the skips and scaffolds don't pay the council directly, the budget to do the repairs would just get added to our Council Tax bill at the year end. Is it not best to have the end-users pay the fee instead of financially penalising every council Tax payer? Surely that would be a more uncaring approach 'me150'?
Fergie - the 'flexi' that Council workers get to do Christmas shopping, is that the same flexi that housing associations, banks, insurance companies...and so on, get as as part of their working conditions?

you would think that the money made would be used for proper signposting round these skips
