Lidl store bid is thrown out

PLANNERS in North Berwick have rejected proposals for a new Lidl store following 155 objections from residents.
Residents feared the store, proposed for the out-of-town Tantallon Industrial Estate, would draw trade out of North Berwick's town centre.
Other concerns were the environmental impact, traffic hazards and a range of "bad neighbour" issues.
But supporters stated that Lidl would help to attract additional shoppers to North Berwick, and actually benefit other local shops.
