Taking two steps to crofting reform

LEGISLATION to secure the future of crofting will be implemented in two stages, the Executive said yesterday.
Some provisions, including measures allowing for the creation of new crofts and tackling the neglect of existing ones, will come into effect in June. Others will be applied from next January.

This already exists but the Crofters Commission have neither the will nor the drive to do anything.

I have numerous crofts around me that have not had a human foot touch down upon them in five years....nor livestock. They are havens for wildlife but they could, and should, be put back into use instead of waiting until PP can be ontained and then sold to the highest bidder.

Old style crofting is dead and buried, all the current breed of crofters want is something for nothing.
It is time that the crofting system was scrapped along with the unelected quango that runs it.
There are crofts on Skye that have not been touched for 40 years or more.
