MUSIC: ARILD ANDERSEN, TOMMY SMITH & PAOLO VINACCIA
The collaboration between bassist Arild Andersen, drummer Paolo Vinaccia and saxophonist Tommy Smith has been winning rave reviews ("my jazz album of the year," said this paper's critic Kenny Mathieson), so this tour is much anticipated. Catch them i

THEATRE: WHITE MAGIC

This year, among the Christmas stalls and funfair rides that fill Princes Street Gardens, there is a beautiful Belgian Spiegeltent. Inside, the spirit of the Edinburgh Fringe is alive and well in the shape of this cabaret show, starring Aussie drag act Drags Aloud, Edinburgh street dance duo Etch n Sketch, the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre, magician Kevin McMahon, mime artist Clive Nicholas Andrews and more.

THEATRE: CINDERELLA

First night of Random Accomplice's modern and very Scottish take on Cinderella, now at the Byre for Christmas. In this version, Ella dreams of dancing with Prince Fraser Campbell Wright, but is stuck looking after sisters FiFi and FouFou's "Dame Academy".

MUSIC: GASLIGHT ANTHEM

As featured on these pages on Monday, the Gaslight Anthem are a New Jersey band keeping blue-collar rock alive, with their heartfelt paeans to the small-town working stiff who's living for the weekend, yearning for a girl called Maria, or a decent automobile. Listen out for the anthemic Blue Jeans and White T-shirts.

MUSIC: RUNRIG

The veteran folk-rock band continue their winter tour. Two dates at Glasgow Barrowland follow on Thursday and Friday (the first of which is sold out). Tickets are also on sale now for the band's celebratory concert at Scone Palace next August, part of the Year of Homecoming celebrations.

FILM: BODY OF LIES

Ridley Scott's latest film manages to say a few things about the world "war on terror" without compromising the excitement. It's a taut, hi-tech thriller starring Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio as CIA agents who are working at opposite ends of the spectrum to snare an al-Qaeda operative.

THEATRE: BABES IN THE WOOD

A panto, a pie and a pint as Oran Mor hands over its lunchtime slot to Dave Anderson and David MacLennan, who will bring 30 years of theatre experience to this affectionate send-up of Christmas shows, which continues throughout December.

MUSIC: CHRISTMAS WITH THE RAT PACK

Screw up your eyes a little bit and pretend it's really Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr up there, as impersonators croon their way through seasonal favourites such as Baby It's Cold Outside and White Christmas.

THEATRE: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Dundee Rep's production of Proclaimers musical Sunshine on Leith is now on tour, freeing up the venue for this new family Christmas show. Jemima Levick directs a production that promises lavish costumes, lots of songs and a fresh take on a traditional yet subversive tale.

MUSIC: REMEMBER REMEMBER

After playing in various bands on the Glasgow indie scene for years, guitarist Graeme Ronald has been getting rave reviews this year for his instrumental solo project, Remember Remember, which has echoes of everything from Steve Reich to Sonic Youth.
