ONE of the Clyde's most and striking landmarks - the Titan crane at Govan - will soon disappear from Glasgow's skyline.
The crane, which dates back to 1911, is being dismantled piece by piece. Owners BAE Systems sanctioned the work after securing special planning permission to demolish the A-listed structure.

If it is listed, why is it being dismantled/allowed to be dismantled?

Exactly, it's the only decent reminder of the Clyde's heritage, why remove it?

Strange one that, always thought it iconic, albeit a bit on the ugly side. Not unlike its listed gas accumulator cousins...

There are another 4 Titans, #2. Listing isn't a guarantee against demolition, #1, it's a presumption and can be challenged.

I wouldn't want to see any more lost but this is maybe the only one that's still in a working location and was getting in the way. It's not accessible to the public either, unlike the ones at Finnieston and Clydebank, so no-one was really getting any benefit from it.
