SCOTTISH economist Adam Smith takes pride of place on a new version of the UK's most common banknote launched today.
The 18th century author of The Wealth of Nations, who is buried in Edinburgh's Canongate kirkyard, replaces English composer Sir Edward Elgar on the Bank of England's new £20 note.

Kircaldy-born Smith has influenced the thinking of Gordon Brown and Margaret Thatcher.

Don't let the Tories (including Gordon Brown) twist Smith's thinking to suit them. He was a far greater thinker than one might believe, and definitely believed in society, unlike his so-called disciples.
