Angus Thomson, 26, a chartered surveyor from Thistle Street, picks his five favourite Edinburgh buildings.
1 The Castle It's such a great landmark and it really gives Edinburgh presence.

2 The Scott Monument Along with the castle it gives the city that "wow" factor.

3 St Mary's Cathedral We always used to go there for a service on the last day of school so it signifies summer holidays for me.

4 Murrayfield Stadium It's not the prettiest building, but it's the site of some pretty memorable victories over England recently.

5 Fettes College I like how the distinctive central spire can be seen for miles.
