Simon Sinclair, 33, marine biologist, Mayfield, lists his top five favourite watering holes.
Basement Bar, Broughton Street. Undergound in the best sense, this is a place with loads of atmosphere.

Utopia, Easter Road Nice decor, free food on a Friday and they've barred Alastair Darling.

The Halfway House, Fleshmarket Close Small, but perfectly formed.

Cargo, the Quayside It's a little bit trendy, and a great place to enjoy a cocktail or two.

The Standard, Howe Street The only place to watch Scotland international games, and not just because they give out free pies at half time.
