Alistair Michel, 25, a scientist from Marchmont, names his top five Edinburgh views.
Edinburgh Castle. The view from Princes Street Gardens is spectacular. Its clifftop position and surrounding plant-life is a rare sign of nature.

Arthur's Seat. The view from Arthur's Seat is staggering. You can see the whole area and appreciate the layout of the city.

Calton Hill. I spent last Hogmanay enjoying views of the city celebrations from Calton Hill. It was breathtaking watching all the different sets of fireworks.

The Meadows. You can see the castle, Arthur's Seat and the beautiful Barclay Church over on the Links.

The Pentland Hills. From Marchmont or Morningside you can get a perfect view of the Pentlands. It's refreshing to have such beautiful natural landscape so close to the city.
