Calls for better protection for Scotland's ancient battlefields will be made this week.
Famous sites, including Bannockburn, have been damaged over the years by inappropriate development on their fringes.

Now Historic Scotland wants to create an Inventory of Battlefields to ensure their importance is recognised when plans are put forward.

The agency will launch a public consultation on introducing the inventory on Wednesday.

Inclusion would mean that a battle site was a "material consideration" in the planning process.
