THE Migration Advisory Committee report sets out a list of the jobs where shortages exist and in which it believes UK firms should be entitled to recruit skilled migrant workers.
The UK government will respond to its proposals next month and the new rules will come into force in November.

The recommended jobs list includes: civil engineers, physicists, geologists and meteorologists, chemical engineers, specialist medical practitioners and dental practitioners. Skilled migrants are also welcome as vets, biological scientists and biochemists, psychologists, pharmacists/pharmacologists, medical radiographers, pharmaceutical dispensers, medical and dental technicians, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, secondary school maths and science teachers. They can also become quantity surveyors, nurses – though only some categories of operating theatre nurse, anaesthetic nurse, scrub nurse, theatre nurse, critical care nurse – engineering technicians, ballet dancers, ship and hovercraft officers and pipe fitters.

Now when ever was a ballet dancer a key job?
It would benefit the economy how?, you need a fortune to go to the ballet ant right now every penny counts.

"UK firms should be entitled to recruit skilled migrant workers." ok can agree with that in parts then this last comment

"They can also become quantity surveyors, nurses" ah so we can bring anyone in then and train them up?

Instead of relying on bringing in migrant workers - why not try to help UK nationals to choose jobs in areas where they are required. That way we would have more graduates working in professional jobs, rather than working in bookshops as their chosen profession has no vacancies.

Young people at school have no idea the number of different jobs available to them - let alone how to get to that point. They need more help.

Those who have already left school without work should also be helped to retrain.

We don't need migrant workers whilst we have unemployment at the rate we have it in the country.

Having down graded the quality, and diluted the core of the Education system, driven away some of the brightest and best professionals, stripped the dignity from these areas with endless petty rules. The solution is to bring in more immigrants, for more money than they could earn at home, but not the alligence or dedication to the British way of life. Nice One. Scotland England and Wales has nothing but Un-trainable Dunderhead?? What Planet are these Politicians and funded committee member from? Indeed if the origins of the committee member were know it would explain such a result. Take the soft option, the quick fix and nobody will bother in six months.
TRAIN, SUPPORT and EDUCATE your people. The world Industrial revolution was initiated, innovated and build by the same stock.

Bang on #2 and#3
Incidentally, can you tell me how many of the professionals cited in the required list of the Migration Advisory Committee would be found in a boatload of Somalis, Algerians,Bangladeshis,Turks, and all the other Third World refugees clambering aboard the Good Ship Britannia?
The Migration Advisory Committee is just another quango of parasitic, self-loathing lefties conspiring to destroy this country.

"Ship and Hovercraft" officers, don't make me laugh. Successive government policies since the mid eighties have just about destroyed the Merchant Navy. Leith Nautical College does not exist(now Jewel & Esk) and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies now caters for more non seagoing students than seagoing students.
Companies such as BP and Shell after making their UK crews all redundant in the eighties recruited heavily from the Indian sub continent. They still recruit four times the number of new entrants from there than people from the UK.
British Gas recently spent about $1 billion on building a series of LNG ships in Korea and these are run and manned by Greeks.
It used to be that the Master and Chief Engineer had to be British, now if you went down to Leith or Grangemouth docks and you were lucky enough to find a British ship you would find it is more likely to be manned by Ukrainians, Latvians or Filipinos.

Unfortunely not enough info. Do these migrants have to be re-educated even if they have a degree in their field from an University? What is considered a proper education? I begs one to think.

How would a person go about looking for work in Scotland? I'm in the USA and would be interested in bring my skills over. I'm a Biological Scientist and teacher of Agriculture and Biology. I hold two degrees and I am single.

#8. Look on the web under Scottish Government jobs, or Civil Service jobs. You may get links to other organisations. Best of luck.

Comments 2,3,4 are absolutely spot on, couldn't be said better. Why to let in people in order just to keep the population numbers up, this relates especially to Scottish Government. Mass immigration is just a quick fix of the demographic problem by the politicians, who cannot be bothered looking at the core of the problem and try to solve it there. I would rather prefer 1 person like Jami coming here instead 20 cheap labourers.

vanachar number 5 You've hit it right on the head I live in the Philippines and they leave here in droves for jobs on UK and other countries ships, because their own country cant provide jobs for them so they come and work for peanuts where ever they can,

The problem is if you let these foreigners into the country in masses they create communities and then start to dominate ares. Just look at certain areas in towns like Birmingham & Manchester,Swindon, just to name a few and what have you got,a multi racial society that hate each other, and clash, and we the Citizens of the country are put down by them and become hated and picked on for trying to stick up for our own part of the world that these degenerate people try to claim for their own.

Do you feel concerned by the staff shortages in the city’s Indian restaurants?
No, I don’t really like Indian food
Yes, I think it will mean a fall in quality
They’re businessmen, they’ll find a way around it.
