AFTER the expenses scandal, many members of the public might think their local MP deserves a good slap.
But if claiming for duckhouses was not bad enough, they should steel themselves for the latest sordid saga to come out of Westminster: Goosegate.

For the uninitiated, the verb "goose" is slang for touching someone's bottom in a surprising manner.

The scandal involved a Tory, some tartan in the form of a Scottish Labour MP and an outburst on Twitter.

And it exposes how for, some female MPs, the atmosphere in the Commons is less Punch and Judy and more slap and tickle.

The opening act is like scene from a rather more upmarket version of Benny Hill. Labour MP Natascha Engel revealed she had been slapped on the bottom while queuing for her lunch in the Commons dining room.

The approach reportedly came from Tory grandee Sir Nicholas Winterton, who has come in for criticism over his expenses claims.

She allegedly told colleagues: "I can't believe it, Sir Nicholas just slapped my bottom."

The claim was broadcast via social networking site twitter by Labour MP Kerry McCarthy.

She told readers: "A knight of the realm no less – slapped a shocked female Labour MP firmly on the bottom."

Ms Engel said: "This is very embarrassing. I would rather not be slapped on the backside. But he is an old man. It is not the end of the world."

Sir Nicholas, 71, who is married to fellow Tory MP Ann Winterton, said he could not recall the incident but nor could be deny it.

He insisted if it had happened, the gesture was meant out of "affection and regard".

"Can I remember this incident? No. Can I categorically deny it? No."

But even if the knight was not prepared to absolve himself, one of his Tory female colleagues decided to ride to his rescue.

Within hours of the incident being "tweeted", Tory MP Nadine Dorries said she doubted Sir Nicholas would do such a thing. "The thought that Sir Nick would slap anyone's bottom is just ridiculous, and if he did, it wldnt (sic] be a Labour bum," she wrote.

But the MP, who recently won £1,000 in libel damages from former No 10 spindoctor Damian McBride, then said she believed the worst offenders were Labour MPs.

She said she had been propositioned by a Scottish Labour MP in an exchange that had left her feeling "disgusted".

She said: "Time for me to start tweeting outrageous stuff Labour MPs have really done and said.

"A Scottish Labour MP walked up to me and said 'You were in my dreams … Would you like to know what you were doing?' I refused. He walked out of the room with me and insisted from two paces behind in telling me, disgusting me."

Last night, it was unclear who the Scottish Labour MP was.

Yesterday, she said: "If Labour want a war, then they will get a war. I have so many stories about Labour MPs that I've never told."

But it was the reaction of Sir Nicholas that perhaps best encapsulated the row. He told journalists: "My God, parliament must be stooping if this sort of incident is reported."

Why is it that if you talk 'Dirty' to a woman is is Sexual Harrassment, but if she talks 'Dirty' to you it is £ 20 a minute ?

What a fantastic quote from Sir Nicholas. He could not recall the incident nor could he deny it. When a gentleman of a certain age pats you on the bottom in remembrance of old glory, when he is as p.issed as a newt, a lady says nothing because no offence is intended.

Nadine Dorries really needs to catch a grip of herself. If she is going to tell a story about a Scottish Labour MP behaving sexually inappropriately then she needs to name him. Other than that she has cast suspicion on all of them and made a gossips charter. Put up or shut up, and I prefer the latter when it comes to childish tittle-tattle.

Tory Nadine Dorries misunderstood the Scottish Labour MP. He did not tell her she was in his dream, he said she gave him nightmares.

I know its fun,but no one received any payment for Duck Houses or Moats.......Cabinet Ministers did though make thousands of pounds selling tax funded properties. The Duck House and Moats headlines are designed to distract the public away from the real expense thieves, this current Labour Government, who had 12 years in power in which to sort it out, instead they milked the ystem for all it was worth.

'milked' as in past tense, they say it's all over?

They also say that if re-elected they'll do something about the neglect the heartlands of their support have suffered, while they've goosefeathered their own nests, like Baron Martin of Springburn's cozy wee retreat where his missus goes their messages by taxi.

They could possibly be forgiven their wanton greed if the constituents who elected them were being looked after.

What are they waiting for? They were elected 74 years ago and folk in Glasgow North East are still waiting for their promised jobs, better healthcare, homes and schooling.
UK priorities mean paying for WMDs and waging war on third world peoples comes before giving kids in Scottish housing schemes a decent start in life.

It must be overdue for the media to exercise judgment in reporting parliament.
a pat on the bottom is a local matter which could have been delt with at the time.
The expenses scandle and the witch hunt reporting threatens the ability of parliment to properly represent the British people.
An M P from Scotland has an equal right to a family life and time in his constituency as an M P from South East England. I don't think the country could afford to build another talking shop in Edinburough. Allowances for M Ps to have a home life in two places are essential to safeguard democracy and the media should promote debate on fair remuneration for elected representitives.

Old Nadine just made that up.

Who in their right mind would ahve any kind of dream about her... then again, the Labour benches are full of weirdos....

Still, it's good to know that these "professionals" can imagine that we think they are worth more money when this is the way they behave.

Message to MPs.... Could you try to do some bl%dy work for a change?
