Housing services rated 'poor'

HOUSING management and homeless services in Midlothian have been rated as "poor" by national inspectors.
Bosses from the Scottish Housing Regulator said a "significant improvement" was needed in the two areas, and asked the council to draw up an improvement plan.

Inspectors from Communities Scotland, now the Scottish Housing Regulator, visited the county in January and February.

They did, however, give the council – which owns more than 6000 homes – a "good" rating for its asset management.

Michael Cameron, acting head of inspection, said: "The council is aware that it needs to improve in a number of areas, including permanently housing homeless people and assessment procedures for those presenting as homeless."

Midlothian Council leader Derek Milligan said the inspectors had recognised their good performance in building new homes.

He added: "We recognise some of our practices have been neglected as a result of this, but we will work hard to develop and implement an improvement plan."

Been in 'emergency' housing since 2003!!
Wonder how many more are in my predicament?
The 100 new houses here are going to Council Tenants and we 'emergency housing folks' will hopefully been offered their houses. would mean the council are rehousing 300 instead of 200?

#1 - Caledonia 59 - Instead of whining about being in emergency housing for five years, you should think yourself lucky that Midlothian Council is actually housing you whilst many hard-working folk are struggling to meet their monthly mortgage payments.

#1 - You are right, and there are many people in your situation.

#2 - You have prob never been in emergency housing?!! If so, then YOU are the LUCKY one!! Just remember, being in emergency housing does NOT mean a person or family are not hardworking. People need emergency housing for a variety of different reasons, and not all necessarily the fault of that particular person/family!
