Lifeboat rescue for city couple

A YOUNG couple from Edinburgh had to be rescued by lifeboat after becoming trapped by the tides on Cramond Island.
The man, 21, and his girlfriend, 22, had walked to Cramond Island at low tide but were caught and had to call for help. Coastguard staff picked them up on Sunday.

I'm surprised Cramond Island is so laxed - with so many of these occurences, surely the authorities will bring in stricter control of the island or shut it off. The tide does zoom in, so if they were caught out, they did the right thing rather than trying to cross and drowning. Better to be safe than sorry I guess!

Could they not have just stayed there for a few hours until the tide went back out? It's not like they were going to starve.
