He was Peter Begbie, born at 18 Fowler Terrace in Edinburgh in 1889. His baby sister Janet died in 1896 of "tubercular meningitis." I'm sad to know the family might have got help at Dr Philip's clinic - oldest brother John, a printer compositor, died of plumonary tuberculosis in 1911, which was the year the family emigrated, and sister Margaret died of tuberculosis in 1917, in Canada.

The link goes to an article on pulmonary tuberculosis which emphasizes TB is a preventable disease and mentions there are now 10 cases of TB per 100,000 people in the USA.

I work in Eastern Europe, where there are still large amounts of TB and it is interesting that little interest is shown in the fight against TB today compared to other diseases, which kill far less people.
