Hemingway's Havana ****

IN between sets of dance and music from the Buena Vista Social Club,Ernest Hemingway's secretary and daughter-in-law Valerie Hemingway – who is nearly 70 – tells stories of Hemingway's later years.
She says Hemingway loved Cuba – he lived there for 30 years and wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. He vowed he would never leave.

This is an exhilarating high-energy show, with wonderful incongruities and a slightly stilted but genuine performance from not an actress but a woman who knew Hemingway. Cuba definitely lives on in Edinburgh and this venue is well placed for hitting a George Street bar to carry on into the night Hemingway-style with plenty of double daiquiris. Until August 26.
